Ben Allen Bowls Perfect Game
16th November 2008
Today Ben Allen has realised the dream of
virtually every bowler to pick up a ball, by bowling a perfect
game of 300.
After several close calls, including a 298
game, he achieved this milestone in probably the most
satisfying manner. In one of the year's biggest
tournaments at Tweed, the Christmas Classic. See the
story below for full results and more information.
Ben has been coming to Coolangatta Tweed
virtually since he was born and has been Bowling since he was
about five or six. Ben also works in the bowling
industry as a valuable member of Computer Score, where he
offers software and systems support to almost the entire
country's bowling centre population. Ben has not only
become an accomplished bowler, but also a prominent name in
the Tenpin Bowling industry in Australia.
Congratulations Ben from Paul, Vanessa,
Olivia, David, Beth, Bob and the entire staff of Coolangatta
Tweed Tenpin.

We Got a Kegel !
18th March 2008
The sad closure of Milton Bowl in Brisbane has given us the
rare opportunity of purchasing a Kegel Kustodian Lane
Conditioner. We have grabbed this opportunity with
both hands and have secured its purchase from Milton's
owners! This machine was desired by multiple other
centres and we were lucky enough to get it.
A lane conditioner machine has a dual purpose:
1) It cleans all the old oil off the rear of the lanes to
allow reactive balls to hook into the pocket. (Between the 1
and 3 pins) and 2) It re-applies a new layer of oil onto
the front of the lane so that the ball can maintain
revolutions before hitting the dry back-end and start to hook.
The Kegel Lane Conditioner is universally acknowledged
as the best available. It cleans the lanes in a
different method to a traditional machine, which leaves less
water out on the lane, thus leaving it less
"Greasy." It also oils the lanes by computer
generated pattern, which allows us to place exactly the
desired amount of oil, board by board, inch by inch, on the
lane in the same method as a bubble jet printer.
Traditional machines use felt wicks which dry out as the
machine goes across the centre. The Kustodian does not
do this.
What does this mean for you? The end
result should be more reactive back-ends and more consistent
oil conditions from lane to lane across the entire house.

Mitchell Bowls his Second Perfect Game
30th January 2008
Congratulations to Mitchell Bird who tonight bowled
his 2nd 300 at Coolangatta Tweed Tenpin during the Sunshine Triples League.
All strikes were in the pocket bar the 3rd frame which was a
brooklyn, nevertheless the game was still a perfect game. Mitch continued the
4th game with an additional 3 strikes. Mitch picked up $1,000 for his effort
tonight, 'now claiming he doesn't have to work for a month'
This has been the 2nd 300 since Coolangatta Tweed Tenpin
laid new synthetic lanes and
approaches in February 2007, the first, of which was bowled by Mitch in August '07.
Once again congratulations Mitch and I'm sure there's many more to come!

Wide Bay a Great Success
The following is a re-production of a post from the
TotalBowling web site:
Well what a weekend, the last tournament for the Wide Bay
tour and it was a great event and fun had by all.
The first day saw A squad start bright and early and Jason
Pearson was the top qualifier for A squad, with Steve Kable
from tweed heads hot on his heals. B squad then hit the
lanes and the bowlers that were putting out the challenge
were Brad Reggars and Cameron Walsh they were showing their
fine form on the lanes, with George Frilingos hot on their
heels. On day one, a person that had a great day was a youth
bowler Naomi Allen from tweed heads, bowling her personal
best game of 268, and also went on to bowl 224, and 237 to
give herself a spot in the match play.
B squad made the second appearance on the Sunday morning and
out of the gates early and showing everyone that he wanted
to win the points for the series was George Frilingos, with
his 6 games being, 211, 215, 269, 211, 245, and 216 to be
top qualifier on a 222 average.
In second saw Cameron Walsh with a 215 average, in third was
Brad Reggars with a 213 average, 4th was an injured Carl
Bottomley with a 211 average and to round out the top 5 was
another youth bowlers from Tweed Heads Ben Fairbank with a
nice 211 average also.
The top 30 had to pair up for the doubles, the bowlers from
16th-30 had to pull the number of there partner out and
there were some great match ups indeed. In that top 30 saw 4
females also.
Steve Hampson, was still grieving as Jason couldn’t make
it to tweed so Steve tried hard to pull Cameron out and he
got his wish, but he paid the price and took everyone’s
flack but showed them all he and his partner meant business.
The doubles format which was something leading into the
event everyone was not too sure on, was from my point of
view, a fun time had by all, everyone gave each other the
trash talk, and some games coming down to the 10th frame.
Brendan Meads had to strike for the win, and showed that he
could get the ball to the pocket, but paid the price for
bowling such a great shot, he rode the shot all the way to
the pocket to see a nice 8-10 looking right back at him,
worst part was he was the last bowler to finish and the
crowd were all watching.
George Frilingos and Paul Chambers were hot on the heels of
the 1st place team Cameron and Steve and it came down to the
last game, George needed to punch out in the 10th frame for
the win, but managed a 9 count on his first ball to give
Steve and Cameron the win.
In third place were Brad Reggars and Henry De Kaste.
The points for the Wide Bay came down to this tournament,
with the top 3 bowlers being only points apart. Well done to
George Frilingos for being the Wide Bay Champion and Leesa
Bartlem for being the ladies Champion.
The top 3 points winners were George Frilingos with 355,
Carl Bottomley with 350 and Brando with 341. 1st in the
ladies was Leesa with 160 points.
A special thank you to Ben Allen, you helped so much throughout
this tournament and you put in so much hard work, thanks
also to Andrew Christopher for doing the live scores, thanks
to all the staff at Tweed Coolangatta Bowl, thank you David
for topping up the prize fund, and thank you Bob for all the
great lane prizes, there were weekends for two in a resort,
a fishing trip, and a show and dinner at the casino just to
name a few, but last of all thanks to all the bowlers. I
would also like to thank Lawrie Hill from Animals Pro Shop
for donating a ball also.
On behalf of Jason and myself we would like to thank you the
bowlers for supporting the Wide Bay for 2007, we look
forward to seeing you all again next year for what will be a
bigger and better year.

'300' Drought broken at Coolangatta Tweed Tenpin
5th August 2007
A huge congratulations to Mitchell Bird who on the 5th of
August 2007 bowled his
first 300.
Bowling on Lanes 3 & 4 in the 4 man Superleague, Mitchell
started his 4 game series off with a 256, he continued his
fine bowling with a 300 game followed by a 210 and 236 for a
massive 1002 series. Mitchell bowled his 300 game with his
Hammer Big Blue. Mitchell Bird improved on his personal best
only 3 weeks ago where he bowled a 285 starting the game with
10 strikes in a row.
With a continued run of 270's, 280's and 290 games by various
bowlers since the new synthetic lanes had been installed in
February, a 300 game was bound to happen. The last 300 game
bowled at Coolangatta Tweed Tenpin was back in March 2001.
For his efforts today, Mitchell earnt himself $2000 by bowling
a 300 game in a 4 man league. All of Mitchell's shots in the
300 game, including the last, were consistently in the pocket.
After the last ball was bowled and all 10 pins hit the deck,
Mitchell raised his arms in excitement and then fell to the
ground.
Once again, nice bowling Mitch!

Synthetic Lanes are here.
Coolangatta
Tweed Tenpin is proud to announce that we now have full
synthetic lanes and approaches. Early indications are
that they will indeed offer better scoring conditions.
It appears that the lane surface holds the
oil much better than the timber surface, which means that
the lane does not produce as much "carry down" of
oil, nor does it create a dry track as easily.
Although bowlers need to get used to the new
surface, every indication is that it has produced a great
improvement in the scoreability of the lanes.
